UK weather: Met Office warning in place as rain and wind sweeps across country

Wet and windy weather will swing across country this weekend

Plenty more rain is set to fall on Friday, with Met Office yellow warnings in force across southwest Scotland, northwest England and Wales.

An incoming weather front is expected to take rain from south Wales and southwest England into the Midlands, and eventually through to southeast England and East Anglia, where it will linger for the majority of Friday. 

In the north, however, it will be much drier compared to Thursday. As the rain subsides, the forecast is a bright day with spells of sunshine.

Overall, temperatures are expected to fall on Friday, but it will be warmest across the south with highs of around 17C. 

Winds will strengthen on Friday evening, as heavy rain pushes into southwest England and Wales, and marches forward into Northern Ireland and the North. Despite the wet weather, it will remain relatively mild across the UK. 

Heading into Saturday, the west should expect heavy rain at times and gusty conditions as southerly winds continue. This wet and windy weather will swing across the country, with near-gales in the north and west.

By comparison, eastern England will not see a huge amount of rainfall and temperatures could reach just under 20 celsius through the weekend.

There will be a brief respite from the wetness on Saturday evening before the next set of weather fronts arrives during Sunday, bringing more rainfall and windy weather. 

Heavy bursts of rain are likely for many areas, and with the wet weather building up, there’s a real threat of travel disruption and some flooding.
