A woman and a teenage girl were today being treated in hospital after suffering burns in an explosion at a house, police said.

Investigators suspected that a gas leak may have caused the blast and fire in Wrentham, Suffolk, said a police spokeswoman.

Police said the injured woman was thought to be 50 and the girl in her late teens.

The spokeswoman said no other people were thought to have been in the house when the fire started shortly before 8am.

Police said the 50-year-old woman had suffered serious burns to a large area of her body and was being treated in a specialist hospital unit.

The spokeswoman said the house had been badly damaged and investigations into the cause of the explosion were continuing.
