Two former senior police officers have been asked to conduct an inquiry into a 'stream of hateful literature' said to have been displayed and distributed inside Ashworth special hospital on Merseyside, which houses many criminally insane patients.

The problems of hate mail and obscene and malicious literature were highlighted in a report by Sir Louis Blom Cooper QC which attacked standards of care and said patients were abused and bullied.
