Women fined over Covid limousine breach

Limousine was travelling from Bilston, Wolverhampton, to Sedgley, Dudley, when police stopped the vehicle

A group of women have been fined £200 each after being caught breaking Covid-19 restrictions as they travelled in a limo together.

West Midlands Police said seven women were travelling in the limousine from Bilston, Wolverhampton, to Sedgley, Dudley, when they were pulled over.

Officers said they were “astonished” to find the women who were all from different households, together.

Under current government rules from November 5 until December 2, people in England are not allowed to leave their homes unless for a specific purpose, such as going to work or school, volunteering, going to a medical appointment, doing essential activities such as food shopping or exercising, moving house, fulfilling legal duties, visiting a person in their support bubble or one person outdoors, or attending an event, such as a funeral.

People are not allowed to meet friends or family inside their homes or in enclosed spaces.

Bilston Police alerted the incident to the public, writing on its Twitter page : “Our team were astonished to stop a Limo in Bilston last night with seven females on board all from different households, completely in breach of coronavirus regulations set by Parliament. All were fined £200.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police added: “Seven woman have been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices after travelling together in a stretched limousine from Bilston to Sedgley in breach of Covid restrictions.

“The vehicle was initially stopped in Bilston, where all seven, aged in their 20s, 30s and 40s, alleged they lived in the same household.

“On alighting the vehicle in Sedgley it became clear to officers this was not the case and the fines were issued.”
