Man who shot thieves freed

An old soldier who shot thieves plundering his allotment has been acquitted of attempted murder.

Ben Lyon, 73, of Askern, South Yorkshire, was found guilty of unlawful wounding at Sheffield Crown Court and given a suspended 18-month prison sentence.
