New suggestion on heart disease risk
Scientists believe that they have discovered a risk factor for heart disease which may be more important than high cholesterol levels in blood. They have developed an accurate method of measuring chemicals called hydroperoxides. When tested on people, those known to be at risk of heart disease had proportionately higher levels of the hydroperoxides.
They are attempting to find out if hydroperoxides cause heart disease by damaging the delicate linings of small blood vessels.
