MATURE students - those aged 21 and over - starting full and part-time first degrees and other higher education courses made up 52.46 per cent of the total in 1993, up from 49.12 per cent the previous year. The total number of mature students, excluding postgraduates, was 225,600 last year, up by 48 per cent over the previous four years.
