Pacific rower quits
The British adventurer Peter Bird, 47, has given up his attempt to row single-handedly across the Pacific from Russia to the United States, his support team in London said. Mr Bird was at sea for 304 days - a record stint in a rowing craft - before being picked up by a merchant vessel 2,000 miles off San Francisco.
