A High Court judge ruled that a hospital had the right to detain a patient, Eleanor Mulcahy, 39, of Clapham, south London, despite a ruling by a Mental Health Review Tribunal that she be released. She had been detained after lighting fires in her flat, which had no power. After the tribunal ordered her release she was detained under a different section of the Mental Health Act. Afterwards the pressure group MIND said the judge's decision revealed flaws in the Act.
