Police in Gloucestershire have released CCTV footage showing the moment a 60-year-old man was punched in the face and knocked out cold in a seemingly unprovoked attack.

The video shows the man on Kings Walk in Gloucester around 4:15am on January 10. As he approaches where the CCTV camera is positioned, he turns around and a young man can be seen running towards the 60-year-old. He catches up with the victim and then, for no apparent reason, punches the man in the face. The 60-year-old falls to the floor and loses consciousness.

The young man, who police say is white and in his twenties, immediately runs off while the elderly man's body lies on the floor.

Police say the offender was wearing a blue hoodie, light trousers and trainers with a white sole. He was also carrying a black coat or jacket.

A second man, with short dark hear, wearing a grey/green shirt and dark trousers, was seen running off with the offender.

Police said the victim suffered serious facial injuries and a head wound requiring eight staples.

Gloucestershire Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or was in the area at the time: Please call 101 quoting Incident Number 74 of 10 January 2015.
