PENSIONERS' TAX: About 160,000 more pensioners will pay tax because of the freezing of age-related personal allowances, Stephen Dorrell, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, told Jeff Rooker. Mr Rooker said the move drew into tax pensioners with modest occupational pensions.
SMOKING: Tobacco duty collected on the 842 million cigarettes a year smoked by children between 11 and 15 amounts to pounds 65m, Sir John Cope, Paymaster General, said.
