Health research: A university-based research and development centre for primary health care is to be set up, Brian Mawhinney, Minister of State for Health, said. The centre will be chosen by selective competitive tender from universities in England and Wales, led by Professor Michael Peckham, director of research and development.

TAX: Two surrealist hats by Eileen Agar have been accepted in payment of pounds 3,500 in tax, Peter Brooke, Secretary of State for National Heritage, said. The hats will go to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
