DOGS IN CUSTODY: There are 125 dogs being held in police custody in England and Wales under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act, which restricts certain breeds, Baroness Blatch, the Home Office minister, told canine rights campaigner Lord Houghton of Sowerby (Lab) in a Lords written reply. Thirty- six animals had been detained for more than six months, 12 for more than a year and five since 1991, she disclosed. The minister added, in a separate reply, that 200 people had been cautioned last year under the Act and 434 had been sentenced.
