LEGAL AID: pounds 535m is likely to be spent on criminal legal aid in the current financial year, pounds 29m less than budgeted, John Taylor, parliamentary secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department, said.

CHARTER COSTS: The Office of Public Service and Science has spent pounds 589,838 this year on press advertising for the Citizens' Charter, David Davis, the junior minister, said.
