TRIDENT: The cash cost of the Trident nuclear weapon system has increased by pounds 158m over the past year, Malcolm Rifkind, the Secretary of State for Defence, said. The current estimate of the total project cost of the trident programme is pounds 10,676m. Mr Rifkind said that in spite of the increase in cash terms, the real terms cost of the programme had fallen by pounds 2.8bn since the original estimate in 1982.
