LOTTERY CASH: The National Lottery raised £239m for good causes in its first 16 weeks of operation, the Government disclosed last night. The money was being distributed through five bodies - the Sports Council, Arts Council, National Heritage Memorial Fund, Millennium Commission and Charities Commission, said Stephen Dorrell, Secretary of State for National Heritage.

HOMES STOCK: David Curry, Minister For Local Government, last night gave 11 councils the go-ahead to switch their homes stock to housing associations in the coming year, subject to tenants' approval. He said that the 1995- 96 programme would comprise nearly 47,000 dwellings valued at over £500m.
