Rise in Aids cases
In the first three months of the year, 418 people developed Aids, the highest quarterly total since reporting began, according to government statistics. The total since 1982 rose to 7,341, of whom 4,572 are known to have died. Of these cases, 79 per cent were among homosexual or bisexual men.
