A civil servant drove with six times the legal alcohol limit in his breath. John McWhirter, 42, of Saltford, Bath, was fined pounds 2,000, given a six-month suspended prison sentence and banned for five years by magistrates at Devizes, Wiltshire. The court was told he had been drinking to forget his hay fever.
