Soldiers clash in town centre

Regimental rivalry was blamed by police for a clash between soldiers in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Troops from the local 22nd Royal Engineers returning to camp were confronted by members of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards from Pirbright, Surrey, who were on exercises.

Six soldiers were taken to hospital suffering from cuts and bruises and 13 were arrested and handed to the military police.
