Lotte Kramer was born in Mainz, Germany, and came to England as a child refugee in 1939. Her work has appeared in a wide range of magazines, periodicals and anthologies as well as being broadcast on BBC radio and television. Her most recent collections are A Lifelong House (Rockingham Press, 1983) and Shoemaker's Wife (Hippopotamus Press, 1987). This poem appears in The Desecration of Trees published by Hippopotamus Press (22, Whitewell Road, Frome, Somerset, BA11 4EL) at pounds 7.95.
