For copyright reasons we are not able to provide the full text of the poem on this database. Following are the details of the publication in which it appears.
In 1944, when his poems were published for the first time, Ern Malley was hailed as Australia's first great modernist poet. But the poems were posthumously published, and the identity of the author was unclear: he had died young. The mystery surrounding the authorship of the Ern Malley poems grew into a remarkable controversy, which remains unresolved. 'Durer: Innsbruck 1495' is taken from The Ern Malley Affair by Michael Heyward (Faber).
