Ken Saro-Wiwa is a writer, television producer, founder member of Nigerian PEN, past President of the Nigerian Association of Authors, and of the Ethnic Minority Rights Organisation of Africa. He is the leader of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP). It is his work in connection with this organisation, which campaigns against environmental pollution in Ogoni, Rivers State, that has led to his being arrested on five occasions in the last two years. He is still in prison, where he has been tortured, denied medical attention and a hearing.
