Tom Paulin was born in Leeds in 1949 and grew up in Belfast. He was educated at the universities of Hull and Oxford, and is Professor of Poetry at the University of Nottingham. His previous collections include Fivemiletown and Selected Poems 1972-1990 (both published by Faber). This poem appears in Walking A Line published by Faber at pounds 5.99.
