Nancy Morejon, literary critic and poet, was born in Havana in 1944. Her publications include Silences, Essential October and Grenada Notebook, which have been translated into a wide range of languages including Polish, Russian, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese. This poem appears in Where The Island Sleeps Like A Wing (The Black Scholar Press) translated by Kathleen Weaver. Nancy Morejon is taking part in Poetry International on 5 November in the Purcell Room at the South Bank, London, at 7.30pm along with fellow poets Kamau Brathwaite, Jorie Graham and Derek Mahon.
