Elizabeth Burns was born in 1957 and grew up in Edinburgh. Her collections include Poems (School of Poets, 1986) and Ophelia and other poems (Polygon, 1991). This poem originally appeared in Ophelia and other poems, and now appears in a new anthology Dream State The New Scottish Poets edited by Daniel O'Rourke and published by Polygon at pounds 10.95.
