Yesterday, at a reception at the Groucho Club in London, Don Paterson was awarded pounds 5,000 as winner of the Forward Poetry Prize for Best First Collection. Paterson was born in Dundee in 1963. He left school at 16, and since then has worked as a musician, moving to London in 1984. This is from his first collection Nil Nil published by Faber at pounds 5.99.
