Geoffrey Hill, British professor of English and poet, was born in 1932. His most recent collections include The Mystery of the Charity of Charles Peguy (Agenda, 1983) and Collected Poems (Penguin, 1985). This poem originally appeared in Tenebrae (Penguin, 1978); which was awarded the Duff Cooper Memorial Prize in 1979, Collected Poems and now appears in the Agenda Anthology 1959-1993 edited by William Cookson price pounds 25. This is the last poem in this week's series on the theme of visual art.
