Weldon Kees was born in 1914 in Nebraska. He moved to San Francisco in 1950 and was active on the cultural scene. His first book of poems was published in 1954 and the following year he vanished, leaving his car parked near the Golden Gate Bridge. The Collected Poems are published by Faber and Faber this month.
