Anti-paedophile protests on a troubled housing estate were today suspended after a fifth family was driven out by the violence.

The family was moved into temporary council accommodation after a seventh night of angry protests on the Paulsgrove estate in Portsmouth.

Up to 300 people took to the streets last night and targeted the homes of three alleged paedophiles, but police said the march had not been marred by violence and no arrests were made.

Protest leaders said today that they were suspending the demonstrations for further talks with Portsmouth City Council.

They had previously said they would not stop until all alleged paedophiles had been moved off the estate and the Government had agreed to tag all sex offenders.
