Village refuses lottery grant

VILLAGERS has turned down a pounds 180,000 National Lottery grant for a modern community centre in order to protect their rural way of life.

More than 200 villagers in Llanbedr, near Crickhowell, Powys, voted two- to-one against the Millennium Commission grant for an up-to-date centre with computers and sports hall. Residents instead called for a facelift for their old village hall.
