War In The Balkans: More help urgently needed
THERE WERE more heart- rending scenes on Kosovo's borders yesterday as aid workers tried to entice terrified refugees to move from camps in northern Albania to make space for more of the displaced. Meanwhile, Slobodan Milosevic was reported to be stepping up his campaign in the province.
The Disasters Emergency Committee, which is co-ordinating the fundraising efforts, says that pounds 30mhas already been raised in Britain. The cash is being used for food supplies, shelter and medicines as well as to pay for the vast tent cities being built on the borders of Albania and Macedonia. But more help is needed urgently to pay for and instal sanitation and water supply systems.
