A Nigerian state has revealed details of one its most precocious civil servants: a one-month-old baby, listed as drawing a monthly salary of about £90 in northern Zamfara state.

According to local anti-corruption activists, the baby is typical of so-called "ghost workers" in Nigeria – non-existent public-sector workers whose pay is pocketed by officials.

The baby, who has not been named, had also made impressive educational progress: it was listed as having earned a diploma.
