Adult actress August Ames dies age 23

The brother of adult entertainment star August Ames has said cyber bulling “cost” his sister her life and called for her death to be recognised as a “serious issue”.

The 23-year-old, who starred in more than 270 adult films, died in Camarillo, California last week.

The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Ames, whose real name is Mercedes Grabowski, had passed away but did not give a cause.

A representative for the office told The Independent they would be updating the public with more information soon.

It is feared Ames, who was from Nova Scotia in Canada, may have taken her own life.

Her brother James expressed his grief at the news of her death.

“I want my sister’s death to be recognised as a serious issue – bullying is not OK,” he told The Sun.

“It cost me my baby sister’s life. I will do what I can be a voice for Mercedes but right now my family and I need to be left alone to grieve – we have lost a loved one.”

Ames’ death came just days after she was subject to fierce criticism on Twitter for saying she would not work with “crossover” gay porn actors.

Ames, who was a rising star in the adult industry, was accused of homophobia but sought to defend herself and insisted it was important she had control over her body.

“I don’t have anything to apologise for! Apologising for taking extra steps to ensue that my body stays safe? F*** you guys attacking me when none of my intentions were malicious. I f**king love the gay community! What the f*** ever! I CHOOSE who I have inside my body. No hate,” she tweeted.

She said: “NOT homophobic. Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety.”

Ames insisted she “loved the gay community”, saying “none of her intentions were malicious”.

Her husband Kevin, who has said her death is a private family matter, described his wife as "the kindest person I ever knew" and said "she meant the world".

Fellow adult actors have paid tribute to Ames on Twitter and expressed sadness at the news of her passing.

Brazzers, a pornography production based in Montreal in Canada, announced they would postpone a previously planned scene featuring Ames.

“In light of today's tragic news Brazzers has decided to postpone the release of tonight's scheduled August Ames scene,” it said.

"The scene will be posted at a more appropriate time, as we come to terms with this devastating loss. Thank you for your understanding.”

Anna Lee, a film writer, producer and director, voiced her grief. She said: “August Ames - one of the first women I had the pleasure of shooting and a beautiful Canadian. You will be very missed on this saddest of days. #RIP My condolences to her family and friends.”
