Black Lives Matter activist kills himself outside Ohio Statehouse

MarShawn McCarrel, a 23-year-old who has been active in the Black Lives Matter movement, killed himself on Monday in front of the Ohio Statehouse, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Police were called to the Statehouse shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, where they found Mr. McCarrel dead up the front steps of the building. Authorities have not released any motive in the shooting.

In the hours before the shooting, Mr. McCarrel posted a foreboding message on his Facebook page, writing "My demons won today. I'm sorry."

After hearing of his death, others in the Black Lives Matter movement and people across the United States took to Twitter to remember Mr. McCarrel.
