Calbuco volcano: Watch as woman is reunited with dog in Ensenada

This is the moment a woman miraculously found her dog in the aftermath of Chile’s Calbuco Volcano.

The woman had returned to the town of Ensenada on Tuesday to try and find her beloved canine after they were separated five days ago when the volcano struck.

In the short 30-second video the woman is visibly relieved to see her pet and sits at the side of the road just hugging the creature.

Behind her the devastation wrought by the volcano can be seen as big piles of ash blanket the road and the surrounding area.

She then picks up the dog and carries it to a waiting car before driving off with her family.

Ensenada is located in the foothills of Calbuco and has been badly affected by the volcano as grey ash covered the town turning into a desert.

There are fears that the ash could contaminate the water supply and cause respiratory problems for residents, however no one was injured in the eruptions.

People living in near Calbuco were evacuated and it is estimated that around 6,000 residents left the area as the volcano erupted twice last week.

It was the first volcanic activity in nearly 50 years and has spewed out around 210 million cubic metres of ash into the air so far.
