Campbell treated for 'infection' at Brazilian hospital
The supermodel Naomi Campbell is in hospital in Sao Paulo, where she is being treated by one of Brazil's top specialists in infectious diseases.
The Sirio Libanes hospital released a statement confirming that Campbell was admitted on Sunday and is under the care of David Uip, an infectious diseases specialist, as well as a gynaecologist, Jose Aristodemo Pinotti.
"The patient and her advisers have determined that the hospital's medical staff will not issue any formal or informal information on her medical condition," a hospital statement said.
The 37-year-old model is a frequent visitor to Brazil. Earlier this month she attended the carnival in the north-eastern city of Salvador.
Her spokesman said: "Naomi Campbell was admitted to hospital last night [25 February] to have a small cyst removed. Following the successful procedure, she is now resting and looking forward to getting back to work. She would like to thank the doctors who have kindly looked after her."
Neither Campbell's representatives nor the hospital would confirm the precise nature of the medical problem. There were reports in the Brazilian media that doctors have said she flew to the country specifically for the treatment.
However there were conflicting reports that Campbell has been staying in the country as the guest of the Brazilian billionaire Marcus Elias since attending the carnival.
Campbell was said last night to be recovering well from the mystery infection.
