The winner of a cockroach-eating contest in Florida has died after consuming dozens of the live insects and some worms.
Edward Archbold, 32, collapsed shortly after the contest to win a python at a reptile shop in Deerfield Beach, near Miami. About 30 others competed in the event, and none of them became ill afterwards, police said.
Officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. "Unless the roaches were contaminated, I don't think they would be unsafe to eat," said Michael Adams, a professor of entomology.
