A Texas police officer making a routine cellphone stop saved a woman who was choking and attempting to call 911.

Officer Dustin Clinkscales noticed a female driver using her cellphone and flagged her down on the highway. Mr Clinkscales saw her choking, as she tried to exit the vehicle. The officer then performed the Heimlich maneuver, before the woman spat out a biscuit, KVUE-TV reported.

The Austin police officer can be heard in dashcam footage asking: "Are you ok? You choking?"

"It's really amazing how quickly he recognized that something was wrong, how quickly he acted and cleared her passage way," officer Michael Eveleth said in a press conference Tuesday. While the chicken biscuit was removed from the woman's throat, she fainted from her inability to breathe.

The driver, who declined an interview with the station, is expected to make a full recovery after spending some time at a nearby hospital.

Duncan Dunn, an Austin detective and the woman's father, said his daughter is very thankful.
