What was he thinking?

That was the question detectives must have put to Solomon Allen after he allegedly left his eight-month-old daughter in his car with its engine still running while he worked out at a gym for 90 minutes.

The Los Angeles Times said the 25-year-old, who describes himself on his Twitter account as a personal trainer, was arrested on Friday morning by officers after they were alerted by passers-by in North Hollywood.

Police said that members of the public had removed the child from the unlocked vehicle parked out the 24 Hour Fitness gym, according to Matthew Ludwig, of the Los Angeles Police Department.

He was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, according to Mr Ludwig, and the baby was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The child’s mother was also contacted.

Reports said that Mr Allen was being held on a bond on of $100,000

The little girl was found by a parking garage maintenance worker after more than an hour, according to KABC television. The worker then reported the incident to his supervisor.

“He went into panic mode,” said supervisor Jose Rivera. “He couldn't believe what he was seeing. A baby. Nobody around in the parking lot, not even walking by.”

He added: “He knew the baby had been in his eyes abandoned inside the vehicle. And the baby just seem really bothered, in the baby seat and just constantly crying.”

Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Stephen Carmona said: “It’s extremely careless and it's very selfish to leave an infant that’s eight-months-old in a car with the motor running, unlocked in a parking structure at a public business.”
