Firefighters rescue remaining eight passengers stuck on ride in Daytona Beach

Two people plunged more than 30ft to the ground after a rollercoaster came off the tracks and was left dangling in mid-air in Florida.

Video footage from the scene on the Daytona Beach boardwalk showed firefighters rescuing riders trapped in the suspended carriage.

Six of the 10 passengers were taken to hospital for treatment after the three-car ride derailed at around 8.30pm on Thursday.

"Two patients fell to the ground from 34 feet," the local fire department confirmed on Twitter. "Unknown extent of injuries."

One woman was pictured wearing a neck brace as she was taken from the scene by paramedics.

The 40 year-old rollercoaster is called the Sand Blaster and reopened in 2013 after being bought from a closed amusement park in Delaware, according to local media.

"Two fell out of the front car to the ground, the other two were dangling from the front car," said fire department spokesperson Sasha Staton.

"Four were in the middle car and two more in the third car.

"The front two passengers had to be rescued by firefighters from the ground using ladders to extricate them from the car.

"The remaining passengers on the track had to be rescued by firefighters who climbed to them from the tower truck to safely reach them on the track and guide them to the ladder.

"The riders were very frightened and the firefighters were doing a great job to ensure everybody stayed calm."
