Emergency services on the scene of Indiana house fire which has killed six

Police have launched an investigation into a deadly house fire in Indiana that left six people dead, including four children and two adults.

The blaze started early Wednesday morning near 2am (7am GMT), Cass County Sheriff Randy Pryor told reporters on the scene, adding the Indiana State Fire Marshal is spearheading an investigation.

The four children, between the ages of two-months to 10-years-old, were killed along with two adults after becoming trapped in the fire.

A mother and her adult son who survived the blaze after escaping from the home were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, police said.

First responders were unable to rescue the rest of the victims in the rural area, which lacks fire hydrants. The Logansport fire department was forced to ship water to the scene in order to combat the flames.

Video posted to social media showed firefighters working from behind two vehicles and spraying multiple flames reaching into the trees above the home.

“We began attacking the fire with a couple large attack lines, attempting to get the fire knocked down to where we could possibly do a rescue,“ Steve Crispen, New Waverly Fire Department lieutenant, told reporters. “It’s just devastating.”

He added, “We want to try and help anyone that we possibly can – anyone that’s involved in a fire service – and save everyone that we possibly can and it just didn’t happen this morning.“

A team of three investigators and two cadaver dogs were on the scene Wednesday following the massive fire.

The town of Logansport is located in northern Indiana’s Cass County, nearly 80 miles from Indianapolis.
