Irish nanny Aisling Brady McCarthy has been charged with murder in the US after the death of a baby.

Ms McCarthy, 34, was indicted by a Massachusetts jury of the first-degree murder of Rehma Sabir, who suffered severe head injuries and died two days after her first birthday. The nanny also faces accusations of assault and battery.

The Attorney General’s office said yesterday: “Police concluded that the defendant had sole custody of and contact with the child during the time that the child sustained the abusive head trauma injuries that caused her death.”

The defence has said the baby returned home malnourished after traveling overseas, including to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and London.
