The runner-up in the presidential election has rejected the final results of the contest, claiming to have evidence that millions of votes were fraudulent.

The official tally said Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador received 31.59 per cent of the vote. That left him about 3.3 million votes behind Enrique Pena Nieto with 38.21 per cent.

"We cannot accept those results," he said, claiming that five million votes were bought.
