The Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has come out against gay marriage, days after President Barack Obama embraced the idea in a television interview.
Speaking at Liberty University at the weekend, Mr Romney said marriage is an "enduring" institution reserved for one man and one woman. He also said: "What you believe, how you live, what you value – it matters."
Mr Romney avoided talking about his own Mormon faith, but said Judeo-Christian values have driven American success.
