More than 100,000 sign US petition to deport Piers Morgan

Former tabloid editor has angered gun lobby

More than 100,000 people have now signed a petition calling for Piers Morgan to be deported from the US over his criticism of pro-gun campaigners after the Sandy Hook school massacre.

The petition, which accused the CNN host of a "hostile attack" on the US constitution, reached the landmark within two weeks of being posted on the White House website. The British former tabloid editor angered the gun lobby by urging tighter controls.

A spokesman for the US President is now obliged to respond to the petition.

Another petition posted on the White House website, "Keep Piers Morgan in the USA", has garnered over 8,000 signatures, stating: "No one in the UK wants him back."
