Mother watches live as son hides from two men who broke into her home

A mother has watched helplessly as burglars ransacked her home and her son hid in a cupboard in the US.

The unnamed Florida woman watched live on her phone as surveillance cameras showed two young men smashing their way into her home, police said.

After the pair pulled up outside in a silver sedan on 21 January, the woman’s son looked through a peephole in the front door.

He was home alone and did not recognise them when they knocked, so did not answer.

The two burglars, thought to be black, aged between 16 and 19, up to 5’7” tall and wearing black clothes, then went to the back of the house and smashed a sliding glass door to gain entry.

The boy dashed upstairs, locking himself into a wardrobe in the master bedroom, from where he called police, the Pembroke Pines Police Department said.

His mother tried to call him but he was on the line with dispatchers, the department said.

Officers arrived within two minutes of being dispatched but the burglars had fled.

The boy was not hurt, though the raiders did break into the master bedroom.

Police have asked for help identifying the pair.
