The funeral for Nadir Soofi – one of the two suspects who allegedly planned an attack on a Mohamed cartoon contest in Garland, Texas – is to be held Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.

Though Mr Soofi never lived in Kansas City, his father and step-mother both live in nearby Overland Park, Kansas, according to local media reports. The family had his body moved from Texas, where he was killed on Sunday.

Mr Soofi and Elton Simpson, both Muslims, were killed in a shootout with an armed police officer outside a convention centre that was hosting a contest featuring drawings of the Prophet Mohamed, which Muslims consider blasphemous.

The two men allegedly shot the police officer, who returned fire and killed both men. Police say the men planned an attack on the event. Isis has since claimed responsibility for the attack.

The US government has not confirmed that Isis was behind the attack, but Mr Simpson had been on the FBI’s radar. Mr Soofi apparently was not known to the government as a terror threat.
