A 68-year-old nun from New York state has pleaded guilty to stealing almost $130,000 (£85,000) from two rural churches in order to fund her gambling addiction.

Sister Mary Ann Rapp, who joined the order of the Sisters of St Francis almost 50 years ago, began stealing from the parishes in New York in 2006.

She was held last November on grand larceny charges. She faces up to six months in jail.
