Hanoi, 2006: Hands up if you feel like a berk. There’s something amiss in this picture - beyond the Western imposters in traditional changshans, that is. It’s the fact that some of the world’s most powerful personages are dressed in pastel hues. Look how awkwardly gregarious they become when in delicate cornflower blue, rather than the usual sombre palette of black, grey and navy. One rather feels that the Cold War wouldn’t have happened if its protagonists had been decked out in these soothing shades instead.
