Surprise Police Stop Leads to Engagement for Johnston Couple

An Iowa police officer captured the moment a man he originally stopped for speeding then propose to his wife.

Jeff Sculte and his girlfriend Jenna Reitz had been making their way back from a Thanksgiving dinner, but were pulled over by a police car. Mr Sculte was ordered to hand over his driver's license and step out of the vehicle.

The officer pats down Mr Sculte before walking over to the passenger's side and asking "do you mind stepping out to make sure this merchandise isn't stolen."

As Ms Reitz made her way to the back of the car, her boyfriend falls to one knee and proposes, revealing the entire traffic-stop to be an elaborate prank.

"I thought you were going to prison!" she confesses after embracing her fiancé.

This wasn't the first time the police officer and Mr Sculte had met. He was previously pulled over for speeding outside his girlfriend's parents house.

In order to make it up to him, the Johnstone Police Department helped him create a unique way of proposing.

The department wrote online: "The Johnston Police Department was happy to be a part of such an important day (and we're glad Jeff has stopped speeding!)."
